Passengers left with shoulder injuries after pilot lands 'way too fast'

Several passengers were injured after a Virgin flight from Melbourne underwent a rough landing.

Many passengers have told 9NEWS they suffered shoulder injuries after flight VA1507 to Maroochydore Airport on the Sunshine Coast landed hard on the airstrip tarmac.

Fearing the plane might have been damaged in the landing, the pilot diverted the flight to Brisbane Airport.

One passenger said he heard a "loud bang" at the time of the landing, another calling it a "frightening ordeal".

"I just think it was incompetence, he was coming down way too fast," a third passenger told 9NEWS.

"He (the pilot) was coming down way too fast."

Virgin has confirmed the flight was diverted and passengers taken to Maroochydore Airport via bus.

"The safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority," the airline said in a statement.
