Party may change name after confusion

A new political party will consider changing its name after confusion among senate voters in Tasmania.

The Australian Recreational Fishers' Party - registered just in time for Saturday's poll and formed in opposition to factory super trawler vessels - attracted swings of more than six per cent in the lower house but the support did not translate to the senate where it fielded two candidates in Tasmania.

"Some people were probably mixed up between ourselves and the Shooters (Fishers and Farmers party) so we'll be looking for a new name in the near future," party spokesman Kevin Harkins told ABC Radio on Monday.
