Partner of Victoria Police officer killed in road tragedy asks for privacy ahead of her funeral

The partner of a police officer killed in a road accident in northern Victoria has issued a statement asking for privacy ahead of her funeral tomorrow.

Senior Constable Bria Joyce will be farewelled at a service in Mildura tomorrow after the officer of six years was killed on April 9 when an unmarked police car collided with a ute in Red Cliffs in the state's north-west.

Her partner has today issued a statement through Victoria Police asking for privacy.

"Bria's extended family, friends, and I are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Bria. We ask for privacy at this very tough time to come to terms with our loss," the statement reads.

A guard of honour will be held at the funeral, for which Senior Constable Joyce's family has asked media do not attend.

Ms Joyce was in an unmarked Mildura highway patrol car with a leading senior constable when an oncoming ute allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the road and hit the car head-on.

The driver of the ute, Josh Moore, 23, was also killed in the crash, while a 43-year-old male leading senior constable was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition with internal and leg injuries.

Two young children, who were passengers in the ute, were taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton described the crash as a "catastrophic" incident.

"No one expects to go to work and not come home," he said at a media conference after the day after the crash.

"This is an absolute tragedy for the police officers involved, for the family and friends of those police officers.

"It is a tragedy and absolutely heartbreaking for the family and friends of the civilian driver involved.

"You come at a loss of words to describe this."
