Four men wanted over $10m Parramatta school blaze after girls come forward

Police are a step closer to finding the cause of a suspicious fire which destroyed a school in Sydney's west last month.

Three teenage girls came forward last night after police released security footage.

The girls, all aged 17, are expected to receive a caution for trespass.

However, police are now looking for four males who were allegedly with them on May 19.

Emergency services were called to the school on Macquarie Street, Parramatta, at 4.45am, where they found a building on the grounds well-alight.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters and was significantly damaged with the estimated costs to repair the building being more than $10 million.

Luckily, the building was not in use and no-one was injured at the time of the blaze.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended the scene and initial inquiries indicated the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Detectives from the Financial Crimes Squad’s Arson Unit established Strike Force Zingara to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, strike force investigators released CCTV of the three girls yesterday.

In the video footage, the trio is seen walking along Charles Street near the school around the time it is believed the fire was started.

Shortly after, the girls are depicted running along the street.
