60,000 new homes: Parramatta Road to be transformed

The Baird Government has revealed its draft 20-year vision for Sydney's Parramatta Road.

The dreary, run-down corridor is set to be transformed into an attractive place to live and work.

More than 60,000 new apartments are set to be built across eight suburbs along the road including Granville, Auburn, Homebush, Burwood, Kings Bay, Taverners Hill, Leichhardt and Camperdown.

New jobs will be created and the entire area will be regenerated with trees and cycle paths.

The notoriously sluggish stretch sees 100,000 vehicles daily, but for eight hours of each day, travel speed is less than 20k/hr.

Plans to add to thousands more commuters to the mix has prompted concern from the opposition and some locals.

Public feedback on the plans is being sought.
