Parliament to debate parental leave laws

The federal government will be pressing ahead with laws to end "double dipping" of paid parental leave.

Social Services Minister Christian Porter told the National Press Club on Tuesday some people earning up to $150,000 a year could receive $30,000 in parenting payments from their employer as well as $12,000 from taxpayers.

"Now is that a system that needs to be amended? The answer that we've given is 'yes' and that amending legislation will come forward," he said.
