Parkinson to head Turnbull's department

Former Treasury chief Martin Parkinson is to head up the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

"He has had an extensive and distinguished career as an economist at the national and international level," Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said in announcing the appointment on Thursday.

Dr Parkinson had also made a significant contribution to public administration in Australia at the highest levels, he said.
