Parents plead to see son accused of Melbourne terror plot

A Melbourne teenager accused of planning a terrorist attack on home soil has appeared in court, as his parents pleaded to see their son.

Following Friday's raids in which police claim they found three improvised explosive devices, the 17-year-old faces two charges related to preparation of a terrorist act.

He was flanked by two security staff at today's hearing and said nothing as his case was discussed.

Through their son's lawyer, his parents asked the judge to ensure they would be able to see their son while he is in detention.

The judge said it was a matter for authorities but said "it would be unfortunate if his family were not able to visit him", before remanding him in custody until the next hearing in two weeks.

A media application to name the teenager failed, which means under the rules of the Children's Court his identity, appearance and religion cannot be made public.
