Parcels lead to guns stash on Gold Coast

Parcels of weapon parts have led police to a US military-style rifle and a stash of other guns on the Gold Coast.

Customs officers in Brisbane and Sydney discovered the packages, and the addresses led authorities to homes at Varsity Lakes and Ormeau.

Police say they found about 500 steroid tablets, steroid liquid, child exploitation material and a number of weapons, including an M4 A1 Carbine, widely used by the US military, at the homes on Wednesday.

Two men have been charged.

A 42-year-old Ormeau man has been charged with importation of a prohibited import, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful possession of explosives and possession of child exploitation material.

A Varsity Lakes man, 33, has been charged with unlawful possession of a Taser stun gun and dangerous drugs.

He'll appear in Southport Magistrates Court on April 17, while the first man will appear on April 28.
