P-plater fighting for life after crashing into brick fence in Sydney's west

A 33-year-old P-plate driver is in a critical condition after a crashing his car through a brick fence in the western Sydney suburb of Prairiewood overnight.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash on Smithfield Road just after midnight.

They were told the car had smashed through the fence of a property before coming to rest in the middle of the road.

The driver was rendered unconscious in the crash and was trapped in his car for a short time, while his female front seat passenger was not seriously injured.

Emergency crews worked to free the driver and he was then taken to Liverpool Hospital.

The 31-year-old female passenger was taken to Liverpool Hospital for observation.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and have spoken to witnesses.
