Man shot by police in Oxley after alleged rampage spanning several suburbs charged during bedside hearing

The man who was shot by police after a dramatic chase in Brisbane's south last week has been charged with numerous offences during a bedside hearing.

The 42-year-old man faced a hospital hearing today after an officer was forced to shoot him following a series of incidents that sprawled across two south Brisbane suburbs last Thursday.

The alleged incidents initially unfolded in Darra, where police allege the man stole a car before he drove to Oxley where he allegedly rammed into the back of a luxury car at high speed.

Police say the man then ran along Oxley Station Road before he allegedly attempted to steal another car from a nearby parking lot.

The man was intercepted by a Good Samaritan who later required medical attention for broken bones.

Police responded to at least 12 calls for service before they located the man who was allegedly armed with a knife, in a park near to where they claim the carjacking took place.

Police say they were forced to shoot the man after unsuccessfully deploying a taser as he allegedly leapt towards a lone officer while brandishing a knife.

The man has been charged with 13 offences including assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, serious assault, armed robbery and attempted robbery.

He is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 13 while the matter remains under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command and the Crime and Corruption Commission.
