Over 35s are too old to be told to eat their vegetables - but it seems not too old to be nagged to buy them more often.

Industry Group AUSVEG has seized on new research showing so-called independent singles - those over 35 without children - are buying fewer vegetables than any other age bracket.

AUSVEG spokesman Shaun Lindhe has queried whether it's down to a lack of awareness of the health benefits of a vegetable-rich diet or external factors such as a lack of meal preparation time.
