Our job is to provide assistance: Joyce

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says every person in Australia has an equal right to a social security number and infrastructure to take them forward.

The Nationals leader was invited to give a warm-up speech for the Liberal Party official campaign launch in Sydney on Sunday.

"Our job as a government is to remove the impediments and to provide assistance where required," he said.

Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop said it was vital Australia's economy remained flexible to be able to deal with events such as the British vote to leave the European Union.

She talked up the coalition's work to seal three major trade deals during its three years in government, saying it created new opportunities for thousands of small and medium Australian businesses.

A re-elected Turnbull government would sign more trade deals.

Ms Bishop took aim at Labor's slogan, "putting people first", and its scare campaign over Medicare.

"It seems there's no lie too outrageous, no issue to sensitive, no person too vulnerable that Bill Shorten won't exploit," she said.

"He lacks the character to lead the nation."
