Commuters across New South Wales who use Opal cards will cop a fare increase starting next month.

Fares will rise 2.4 percent starting on July 3, but prices for Gold Opal cards will remain untouched at $2.50 per day.

The NSW government said the fare increases are moving in line with inflation and the regular 4.2 percent annual increase suggested by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal has been rejected.

Transfer discounts will also be unaffected by the price adjustments.
