One woman dead, another injured after stabbing at Taree home

A woman has been killed and another injured in an attack on the NSW mid-north coast.

Police forced entry into a house on Stevenson Street, Taree, about 7pm, where a 49-year-old woman was found dead.

Police arrested a man, 53, at the scene.

A 39-year-old woman was discovered with a stab wound to her abdomen and was rushed to Manning Base Hospital, where she is in a stable condition.

The arrested man is assisting Taree police with their investigation.
