Senator Rod Culleton has met with Employment Minister Michaelia Cash to nut out One Nation's support for the government's legislation to restore the building industry watchdog.

He said One Nation sought favourable amendments, including support of apprenticeships around Australia.

Senator Culleton said the meeting was very positive.

"There is a bit more massaging to do that is going to make it favourable. I am sure that these changes will be made," he told reporters in Canberra.

Senator Culleton said the party wanted more than slight changes.

"It's got to be right with us before we will give it 100 per cent and say which way we are going. There is a lot more negotiation to be done," he said.

The legislation, which was used as a trigger for the July 2 double-dissolution election, has already passed the lower house and is scheduled for debate in the Senate next week.

The government, which has 30 senators, needs eight extra votes to pass the bill.
