One dead, four in hospital after NSW crash

A head-on collision between a car and a ute in northern NSW has left a man dead and injured four others, including a toddler.

The car's driver, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, died at the scene of the crash in Piora, near Casino, yesterday afternoon.

A 39-year-old woman and a three-year-old girl travelling with them were airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital, and were both reported to be in stable conditions.

The ute's driver, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Lismore Base Hospital and is in a critical condition.

His front-seat passenger, a 21-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

In a separate incident in NSW later yesterday, a woman was killed in a crash in a shopping centre carpark in Sydney's east.

Emergency services were called to the centre in Randwick about 9pm (AEST) and found a car smashed into a wall.

The driver and only person in the vehicle, a woman believed to be aged in her 70's, died at the scene.
