Killer remains at large after body found near Melbourne kindergarten

Police are appealing for assistance after the body of a man was found with extensive injuries near a Melbourne kindergarten this morning.

The man who found the body was an off-duty Protective Services Officer who was crossing a park in Melbourne's south-east.

The officer was walking a dog in Pultney Street park in Dandenong at 4.30am when the body was discovered.

Investigators have set up a crime scene around the body and are working to determine the cause of death.

The man has not yet been identified but police said he suffered chest injuries.

The SES conducted a line search at the murder scene.
