Rescue crews have been forced to break down the wall of a Sydney house to remove a 400kg man trapped inside.

The front bedroom window of the Croydon Park home in Sydney's west had to be torn off because the 36-year-old man was so big he could not fit through the front door.

It is understood the man weighs between 300kg and 400kg but NSW Ambulance would not confirm his exact weight.

"Due to the nature and size of the male involved, allegedly weighing in excess of 400kg, rescue crews were required to remove the front bedroom window to gain access," NSW Ambulance said in a statement.

Emergency crews were called to the home after the man reported suffering from "chest pains".
