Oakleigh: Multiple victims after gang of 'armed youths' go on rampage in Melbourne

A gang of youths is believed to have stabbed, glassed and assaulted multiple victims during a rampage through a suburb in Melbourne's south east overnight.

Police "dispersed" a large group of youths from Warrawee Park just before 10.30pm last night after reports of a stabbing.

Witnesses told 9News the group were armed with baseball bats, large sticks and knives.

A spokesperson from Victoria Police told 9News a man who is believed to have been glassed was hospitalised, while a witness claimed his friend was also stabbed in the leg but did not report the incident to attending officers.

The armed group moved on, congregating again in Eaton Mall where a 29-year-old Oakleigh East man was assaulted.

He sustained cuts and bruising to his face.

Police were called again, and this time collected the youths' details before escorting them to a nearby train station.

But a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old had to be capsicum sprayed after allegedly "trying to start another fight", according to police. Both were treated.

The younger of the teens, from Cranbourne North, was given a penalty notice for riotous behaviour, while the older, from Murrumbeena, was interviewed for riotous behaviour and possessing a controlled weapon.

Another 16-year-old was interviewed for a weapon offence.

A 15-year-old from Mount Waverly was arrested for an unrelated theft offence.
