Woman dead, four injured in NT crash

A woman has been killed and two people have been airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital after a two-car collision near Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory.

The vehicles collided head-on at about 8pm on Wednesday on the Central Arnhem Highway, about 100km from Nhulunbuy.

A woman travelling in one car died at the scene, while the three other occupants were injured, as was the driver and sole occupant of the second car.

Two people have since been airlifted to Darwin.

Central Arnhem Highway will remain closed to heavy vehicles on Thursday morning while police investigate the exact circumstances of the crash.

Light vehicles will be able to pass, under the direction of officers on site.

The Northern Territory road toll now stands at 43, compared to 37 for the same time last year.
