Two more dead on NT roads

A woman has been struck by a car while walking on a major outback highway, becoming the fifth road fatality this week in the Northern Territory.

The pedestrian died after being hit on the Stuart Highway 5km north of Mataranka, about 420km south of Darwin, on Friday morning.

The driver of the car is helping police with their investigations and the southbound lane of the highway is closed.

Earlier on Friday, a man died after his car rolled on Coral Road in Herbert, in Darwin's rural area.

The street remains closed as police investigate.

Five people have been killed in six days on NT roads, with the road toll for 2015 now at 48, compared to 38 at the same time last year.
