UPDATE: Power to 'start returning' to Darwin after gas issue resolved
Power is predicted to return to normal in the Northern Territory's Top End after the government responded to a gas supply problem.
Rolling blackouts are continuing in order to save power, but government information service SecureNT reported gas flow from Blacktip had been restored.
"This means it is business as usual from tomorrow and there will be no closures of schools or public service buildings," SecureNT posted on Facebook.
However, Darwin and Katherine residents are still facing a couple of sticky hours ahead with temperatures sitting in the high 20s and the government asking people to avoid "unnecessary" power usage.
Residents of Greater Darwin and Katherine lost power this afternoon after a gas supply issue from its Bonaparte pipeline.
Traffic lights went out at 49 intersections in Darwin, forcing police to mobilise in order to direct traffic throughout the city.
