Schools evacuated in Darwin after threats

Students from three top-end schools are back in class after bomb threats sparked evacuations.

Dripstone Middle School and Stuart Park Primary School in Darwin and Woodroffe Primary School in Palmerston received telephone bomb threats on Friday morning, and police evacuated all three campuses as a precaution.

While the schools have since been declared safe, investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the calls and whether they were linked to threats made to schools in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT.

The schools received automated phone calls and enacted their emergency management plans as a precaution, the Department of Education told News Corp Australia.

"These threats appear to be a series of hoax calls, designed to cause disruption and attract media attention," it said.
