Stingray flaps onto beach to snatch angler's catch

For Northern Territory stingrays, a beach head is no obstacle to a tasty treat.

Anglers on a heli-fishing trip to remote Anson Bay, southwest of Darwin, found out the marine predator is not afraid to venture onto shore in pursuit of a feed when a blue salmon they caught was left by the water's edge.

Footage shows the stingray emerging from the muddy waters, flapping itself onto the banks of the coastal floodplain and then dragging the fish back to the water.

"Our guide Ben had a salmon that got caught and didn't survive the release," Mark Rolle from Darwin-based Helifish told the NT News.

"So when our resident friend Raymond showed up he gave him a little treat ... amazing creatures."
