State of the Territory - the NT election

HOW THINGS STAND IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY GOING INTO THE AUGUST 27 ELECTION:

SEATS

* CLP - 11 seats, governs in minority in the 25-seat Legislative Assembly

* Labor - 7 seats

* Independents - 7 seats

SWING

* Labor will need to win six additional seats to secure a majority government

* The CLP needs to retain all its seats and gain an additional two seats to secure a majority government

PEOPLE

* The NT population is about 244,000

* In 2012, there were 123,805 registered voters, with a 76.9% turnout rate

* Electorates are very small: they average about 5200 voters each
