Police drop corruption probe against NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner

The Northern Territory police force has confirmed it won't be investigating the NT Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, over allegations of corruption.
A complaint was lodged to police last month by Independent MLA, Robyn Lambley, who was suspicious of Mr Gunner's explanations about his government's takeaway outlet floor space policy.
Mrs Lambley questioned whether Mr Gunner had colluded with members of the Australian Hotels Association (AHA), to implement a 400 square metre floor space restriction on retail areas in takeaway outlets. Mrs Lambley claimed the policy was a a bid to stop large liquor stores, like Dan Murphy's, from setting up shop in the NT.
Woolworths, parent company of Dan Murphy's, even took the NT Government to court, arguing the policy was designed to protect local outlets from competition.
It has since halted proceedings after the policy was enact into legislation.
Mr Gunner denied any corruption and insisted his party policy was developed separately to the AHA, and it was a "coincidence" Labor and the AHA had the same policy.
Today, a NT Police spokesperson released a statement that the assessment of this matter is “now complete”.
“Police will not be commencing a formal investigation. The matter is now finalised and all parties have been advised."
