Pedestrian killed on Arnhem Highway

An 85-year-old woman has allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian at Humpty Doo, south of Darwin.

The woman was hit as she was crossing the Arnhem Highway at about 9pm on Tuesday night.

Although she received emergency treatment at the scene she died shortly afterwards.

The 85-year-old driver was treated for shock, and is helping police as they investigate the circumstances.

The Northern Territory road toll is now 27, compared to 24 at the same time last year.
