Pedestrian killed in Darwin car accident

A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a car in Darwin.

Northern Territory Police said the victim, who has not yet been identified, was hit near the intersection of Lagoon Road at Knuckey Lagoon on the Stuart Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

The inbound lanes of the Stuart Highway from Lagoon Road to Berrimah Road remain closed, with traffic being diverted up Tivendale Road, and police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

The NT road toll is now 12, compared with 10 at the same time last year.
