Open speed limits could be extended to more areas of the Northern Territory, after a 12-month trial in which drivers "behaved well".

The Territory government is set to review the trial that took place over the last 12 months.

Transport Minister Matt Conlan said drivers had adapted well to the absence of speed limits.

"Territorians have driven to the conditions, they've behaved well and they've driven responsibly on that stretch of road," he said.

"As a result, we'll keep that speed limit in place pending any outcome."

The trial included a 200km stretch of road from south of Barrow Creek to Alice Springs and open speed limits will remain in place there until the review is complete.
