NT relative turns Don Dale escapee in

A young Northern Territory inmate is back in custody after escaping from Don Dale Youth Detention Centre late on Tuesday night.

The detainee was returned to the youth prison by an older family relative early this morning, and received medical treatment for minor injuries sustained during his escape shortly after.

"A further two young detainees also attempted to escape at the same time and were apprehended within the compound by Youth Justice Officers," Territory Families said.

The NT government thanked the guards on duty overnight for their prompt and professional response.

"Thanks also to NT Police for their assistance during the search for the escapee," Territory Families said.

The young detainee sustained minor injuries during his escape and received medical treatment on his return to custody.
