NT Police sent to stop riot in Borroloola

Northern Territory police have flown from Darwin to remote Borroloola to help local officers stop a violent riot involving numerous people armed with steel bars, rocks and bricks.

House and vehicles were damaged, including two police cars.

Police received multiple calls just after 10.30pm Wednesday about a fight in the town, near the Gulf of Carpentaria.

"Two police vehicles received damage to windscreens and possible minor panel damage due to rocks being thrown," NT police said in statement on Thursday.

"Additional resources arrived in the community this morning to assist with the follow-up."

The violence may be a related to the recent death of a young man in the town.
