Police seized almost 24kg of cannabis in one bust during a week-long roads operation targeting the importation of drugs in the Northern Territory.

NT and Australian Federal Police's national anti-gangs squad made use of the newly passed legislation allowing them to search cars without a warrant in a drug declared area, as well as monitoring passengers on commercial flights.

During the week, 12 people were arrested, six issued with notices to appear in court and 23 people were issued drug infringement notices.

The largest single haul was a seizure of 23.6kg of cannabis in Darwin's rural area, and two men aged 24 and 31 have been remanded in custody to appear at Darwin's Magistrates Court next month to face the charge of supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 drug.

Total seizures included 27.5kg of cannabis, more than $70,000 in cash, 315 grams of methamphetamine, more than 320 MDMA pills, five firearms, two tasers, a set of knuckle dusters and ammunition.
