NT mother faces court over child's death

A mother-of-three who was driving when her car crashed, killing her young son and her boyfriend and critically injuring another man in Darwin, has been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

Andrea Groening, 25, faced Darwin Local Court on Wednesday on charges of driving dangerously causing the deaths of her seven-year-old son Mehali Pastrikos and boyfriend and father-of-two Wade Williams, 21.

She is accused of causing the crash in which police allege she ran a red light in a RAV4 car on Tiger Brennan Drive just before midnight on May 22 last year colliding with a Ford Ranger ute.

Groening has been charged with causing serious harm to the 42-year-old ute driver who was critically injured but survived.

Groening has also been accused of being affected by substances on the night and was charged with medium-range drink-driving and drug-driving.

A recording device from the injured man's ute and CCTV footage of the fatal crash are expected to be used as evidence.

Prosecution lawyer Stephen Geary asked on Wednesday for the matter to be taken to the Supreme Court, which was granted.

Groening, who is on bail, is yet to plead.

The matter returns to court on July 30.
