NT man charged with rape, theft

A man accused of raping and robbing a woman in central Alice Springs is being held pending a court appearance.

The 44-year-old allegedly approached a 52-year-old woman in the Todd Mall near Flynn Church in the early hours of July 15, sexually assaulted her and stole her mobile phone, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said.

He was arrested on Friday and charged with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault and stealing.

He will remain in custody until he appears before Alice Springs Magistrates Court at a date yet to be fixed.
