Northern Territory man dies in police custody

A 45-year-old Northern Territory man has died while being taken into police custody after suffering what is suspected to be a medical episode.

Police spoke with the man at Vesteys Beach yesterday and were in the process of taking him into custody when he collapsed.

Officers administered CPR before an ambulance crew took him to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

A report will be prepared for the Northern Territory coroner.
