Man arrested after Darwin hit and run

A man has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run in Darwin.

The 37-year-old is in custody and police expect he will be charged later on Thursday.

A car driver reversed and hit a 37-year-old man at the Mindil Beach car park in Darwin on Tuesday night, dragging him some distance before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital but died shortly afterwards.

The Northern Territory's road toll now stands at seven, compared to six deaths at the same time last year.
