Man arrested after attack on health worker

Another Northern Territory health worker has been injured and a man has been arrested in the remote community of Wadeye.

It is the second time in a week that a health worker has been harmed in the community, about 400km southwest of Darwin, after a nurse was attacked by a patient when she went to his home to collect him.

Police say that in the latest incident in the early hours of Monday May 2 a 20-year-old man threw an object at a 25-year-old woman as she was leaving a health clinic, shattering a car windscreen and causing her head injuries, as well as causing minor injuries to the health clinic worker escorting her to the vehicle.

The woman received treatment at Wadeye Health Clinic and has since been released.

Police arrested the man without incident later on Monday morning and charged him with two counts each of aggravated assault, being armed with an offensive weapon and being armed in public, as well as assaulting a worker, property damage, and reckless endangerment causing serious harm.

The man was remanded in police custody and was to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.
