Three girls have been charged with stealing cars to drag race in a spree worth $45,000.

Police say a 14-year-old and two 15-year-old girls stole several vehicles over three days from Monday.

Two of the teens allegedly stole a Toyota Corolla from a Darwin residence around 12.30am on Monday, and police say they caused $1000 worth of damage after crashing it into a fence of a residence in satellite city Palmerston.

The next day, the girls allegedly stole a Holden Rodeo in Darwin, which they then graffitied. They allegedly then stole a Suzuki Swift and Subaru Impreza from a residence in Marrara on Wednesday.

They were using the cars to race against each other at high speeds, police say.

Police have since recovered all four cars and say the crime spree was worth about $45,000.

The girls will face the Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday charged with a range of property and traffic offences.
