Almost 20 Northern Territory plants and animals been added to the federal government's threatened species list.

The conservation status of two already threatened animal species have also been upgraded while the southern marsupial mole has been removed from the list altogether, the NT Department of Land Resource Management says.

The department's species conservation director Simon Ward is pleased to see the marsupial bouncing back and says they're incredibly difficult to track because they inhabit some of the Territory's most remote areas.
