Ex-NT staffer found guilty of corruption

A former Northern Territory ministerial adviser has been found guilty of corruptly receiving kickbacks from a travel agent while he was chief of staff to then Country Liberals minister Bess Price.

Paul Mossman was accused of accepting free and discounted flights from Latitude Travel's Xana Kamitsis in 2013 and 2014 in return for more than $300,000 in exclusive government contracts.

On Tuesday, a jury in the NT Supreme Court found him guilty on two counts of corruptly receiving a benefit.

Mossman, a former adviser to ex-chief minister Adam Giles, allegedly went on a free trip to Kuala Lumpur, took his son to New York, and his daughter to Sydney between 2013 and 2014 through the company.

Crown prosecutor David Morters said Mossman sent "wink wink, nudge nudge" emails to Kamitsis, flagging new business opportunities and hinting he wanted to go on holidays to Bali and the Philippines.

Mossman had pleaded not guilty to five counts of receiving a secret commission.

He was found guilty of having service fees waived and a deferral of full payment for return flights to Sydney with his daughter and to New York with his son in 2014.

Mossman was found not guilty of receiving discounted or free fares for both those trips.

The jury couldn't reach a verdict on the charge of receiving free return flights to Kuala Lumpur and one night's accommodation in 2013, the cost of which was allegedly paid by Latitude Travel.
