Youths at Don Dale scale roof with fire extinguisher
Several youths, aged between 13 and 17, climbed the roof at Don Dale Detention Centre around 6pm yesterday, waving broom sticks, plastic pipe and what appeared to be a fire extinguisher.
The incident occurred after the detainees became aggressive and refused to follow direction during the evening routine.
They initially climbed into the ceiling to access the roof, setting off a fire alarm during the process.

The detainees were heard yelling and swearing at dozens of police as they swarmed the building below, attempting to negotiate with the youths.
Negotiations lasted five-and-a-half hours with the last youth coming down around 11.30pm.
Two youth justice officers were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical assessment.
Investigations are still ongoing and police may lay charges.
A statement from Territory Families said the young people involved would be held accountable for their actions.
It’s understood the roof is easily accessed and not uncommon for detainees to climb in protest. Similar situations have already occurred three times this year.
The incident comes six-months after a building was lit on fire by youths during riots.
