Cannabis trafficker on further NT charges

A man who admitted to transporting more than 43kg of cannabis from South Australia into the Northern Territory has been slapped with more criminal charges.

Police on Friday charged the 56-year-old man with money laundering and supplying a commercial quantity of the drug.

The man had been charged with possessing and supplying cannabis in November, when police from both jurisdictions tracked him from Adelaide to just south of Tennant Creek, where they arrested him and found four kilograms of cannabis vacuum-sealed in his car.

Under police questioning, he later admitted to transporting more than 43 kilograms of cannabis from Adelaide into the NT.

Police allege that the cannabis was destined for Tennant Creek and Barkly communities and had the potential to yield a cash return of around half a million dollars.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on January 6.
