Bull gores man while hunting in remote NT

A wild bull has gored a hunter in a remote part of the Northern Territory, leaving the man with severe injuries to his buttocks and back.

The 26-year-old was attacked 77km from the Markalawa Station on the weekend, and he had to be driven for five hours to receive medical help.

"One of the horns has gone in his buttock and up his back. He also received injuries to his upper leg and arm," Territory Duty Superintendent James O'Brien said.

The man was treated at a clinic in Numbulwar, a town located about 570 kilometres southeast of Darwin on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

He was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital on Monday where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The man was on a hunting trip to the Walker River region of the Roper Gulf, which is renowned for buffaloes, oxen, wild boar and banteng.
