Better beef roads on the agenda in NT
The government's promised $100 million for Northern Territory cattle transport route upgrades will be on the table as federal ministers visit Darwin this week.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester and Minister for Northern Australia Matthew Canavan was to visit a cattle yard and meet stakeholders on Wednesday to discuss the upgrades to key routes.
About half of the 1.3 million cattle Australia exported in 2014 came from the NT.
"It is important that we reduce costs and improve efficiencies in the industry to maximise returns to producers," Minister Canavan said.
"Transporting cattle to market is one of the major costs in the industry and I want to hear from stakeholders about how those costs can be reduced through better roads."
