A road train full of cattle has rolled in the Northern Territory, spilling dozens of the animals onto the highway and killing at least 20.

Police say the last two trailers containing cattle rolled on the corner of the Stuart Highway and the Barunga turn off at about 5.30am on Wednesday.

A number of cattle escaped from the truck and there were no people injured.

Earlier in the morning, another road train hit a bull at around 2.30am in Borroloola.

Two of the rear trailers rolled however no one was hurt.

It comes after a 49-year-old Howard Springs man died after a single vehicle rollover.

NT Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said it occurred just before midnight, near the intersection of Tivendale Road and Wishart Road.
