NT police unimpressed by driver's tequila excuse
A Northern Territory P-plater told a policeman he was drinking tequila behind the wheel "because he's a good driver".
Abdirahman Abdullahi, 22, was swerving all over the road when he was pulled over in Jingili, in Darwin's north, in the early hours of February 21, NT News reports.
Police found he had an open bottle of tequila in his lap and was not displaying his P-Plates.
When a police officer asked him why he had been drinking and driving, he replied: "Because I am a good driver."
He was taken to a local police station where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.026, five times the legal limit.
Darwin Local Court yesterday suspended Abdullahi from driving for three months.
Abdullahi was a Somali refugee who came to Australia in 2014.
