A man has been arrested after setting off fireworks beneath a mobile CCTV camera set up by police in the Northern Territory.

Images from the CCTV camera, which was set up on Aralia Street in the northern Darwin suburb of Nightcliff, were released by police on January 13.

The man can be seen igniting the fireworks before walking away.

NT Police arrested the man 10 days later.

He was charged with three fireworks offences and interfering with a motor vehicle.

"Whilst some may consider this harmless, he will now be appearing in Darwin Local Court charged with numerous firework offences and is facing fines in excess of $4000," an NT Police spokesperson said.

"These CCTV cameras are put in place to help protect the public and deter crime, this kind of behaviour is just completely irresponsible."

The man is expected to front Darwin Local Court on March 8.
