NT cops smash window to arrest bikie

Darwin police had to smash a car window to arrest a Rebels bikie associate who had locked himself inside.

Acting Detective Sergeant Tim Gardiner says police pulled over the man, 29, for a roadside breath test after he left the Rebels clubhouse in Berrimah, east Darwin, on Sunday.

The driver allegedly locked himself in the car and officers broke a window to get him out, Det Sgt Gardiner says.

Police then searched the car and found a large quantity of methamphetamine and unsecured ammunition.

The man was arrested and charged with drug and firearms offences.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a 29-year-old Rebels associate in Virginia after finding a large quantity of methamphetamine and a Taser inside his vehicle.

Officers also allegedly found a trafficable amount of methamphetamine and a clandestine drug laboratory during a later search of the man's Coolalinga home.

He was charged with the possession, supply and manufacture of methamphetamine, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both men are due to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.
