A woman who had her face sliced open during a robbery in Sydney's west has received stitches to her cheek.

The woman was sitting in the driver's seat of a car in Wetherill Park on Monday night when a man believed to be in his 20s demanded her handbag and phone, before slashing her face with a knife.

The woman believed to be in her 40s was treated at Liverpool Hospital and had the lacerations on her faced stitched.
